Harrisburg

Harrisburg (population 50,000) is the capital city of Pennsylvania. This small city offers typical city amenities such as a dynamic arts scene, excellent restaurants and farmers markets, and beautiful parks and recreation opportunities. Harrisburg is also home to some unique features such as the world-famous PA Farm Show (a must see for Sycamoreans each year!), the Susquehanna River, and the beautiful PA capitol building. Corps members report noticing that the city is small enough that they feel they can really make a difference here, and large enough to feel like they can find their niche. And in downtown Harrisburg, you’re only 20 minutes from hiking on the Appalachian Trail, or 2 hours from Philadelphia and D.C. if you’re in the mood for a larger city.

Riverfront Park

The sunsets on the Susquehanna River are unbeatable. A short walk from the Sycamore House is City Island, home to the Harrisburg Senators baseball team, mini golf, and snow cones galore.

PA Farm Show

This annual pilgrimage brightens up the dark month of January with milkshakes, agricultural education, and the chance to pet alpacas.

Capitol Building

Visitors can enjoy a free tour of the stunning architecture of this building and learn about PA’s past, present, and future. Many a corps member has attended a rally or vigil on the capitol steps!
